When can I renew my California RN license?
The California BRN says an RN license may not be renewed earlier than three months before its expiration date. Confirm the live date and available activity in BreEZe.
How many CE hours are required for California RN renewal?
The standard active-license renewal requirement is 30 contact hours. A qualifying first renewal immediately after initial licensure by examination has a different rule, including the one-hour direct-participation implicit-bias requirement.
How much is California RN license renewal in 2026?
The BRN fee schedule reviewed August 29, 2026 lists $190 for a timely RN renewal and $280 for a delinquent RN renewal. Additional advanced-practice or furnishing fees may apply.
Can I work while a timely renewal is pending?
California BRN guidance cites Business and Professions Code section 121: practice may continue while renewal is pending when the fee was submitted timely and all renewal requirements were met. An employer may impose stricter requirements.
What if I have not completed the CE hours?
The BRN describes inactive status for an RN who pays the renewal fee but has not completed the required CE. An inactive license does not permit California RN practice.
