Cannot find the California BRN CEP number during renewal?
Do not guess or paste an unrelated accreditation number into BreEZe. Search the provider’s legal name in DCA License Search, confirm the live record, and ask the issuer for the exact provider entry when the certificate is incomplete.

Certificate says ANCC, but no California CEP
An accreditor name is not a number to invent for the CEP field.
The answer depends on the course and where it was offered. The California BRN lists some accepted-course categories without the ordinary California CEP path, but it also gives a specific California CEP rule for courses offered in California by out-of-state organizations.
Do not enter the ANCC organization number as a California CEP
The renewal field asks for the provider record that applies to the course. An accreditor name on a certificate is not automatically a California BRN CEP number.
Check where and how the course was offered
The BRN says ANCC-approved regional accrediting-body courses can be accepted when taken out of state. It separately says courses offered in California by out-of-state organizations must have a BRN-approved CEP number.
Ask the issuer for the exact renewal entry
Request the legal provider name, the applicable California CEP number or documented approval basis, and corrected completion proof if the certificate is incomplete.

How to find a California BRN CEP number—and match it to the certificate.

Start with the completion document
Look for the provider’s California BRN number and legal name on the certificate, transcript, course advertisement, or provider receipt. Search the name exactly before trying a shortened brand name.

Select the RN board in DCA Search
Under “Boards and Bureaus,” choose “Registered Nursing, Board of.” This keeps similarly named permits from other professions out of the result.

Select the CEP license type
Under “License Type,” choose “Continuing Education Provider - CEP.” Search by the provider number when available or by Business Name when it is not.

Open the record and reconcile it
Confirm the displayed legal name, number, current status, and expiration information against the completion document. Keep the lookup result with the course record.
If the CEP number is missing
Do not guess a provider number to finish the form.
Search the legal name
A course brand, hospital department, or learning platform may differ from the legal entity holding the CEP. Ask the provider which name and number belong on the certificate.
Request corrected proof
California BRN provider instructions require a completion document and a provider statement in course advertising. If the certificate is incomplete, ask the issuer to correct or reissue it.
Check whether a documented exception applies
The BRN describes accepted academic coursework and other categories that may not use a California CEP number in the ordinary way. Confirm the current rule for the specific course instead of inventing a number.
Do not count an expired number by assumption
The BRN says a course is not eligible for contact hours when the provider number is expired. Resolve timing and status with the provider or BRN before relying on it.
Message the course provider
Ask for the exact record—without debating eligibility by email.
I completed [course title] on [date]. My completion document does not show the provider information I need for my California RN renewal record. Please confirm the legal provider name, the California BRN CEP number or other documented approval basis that applies to this course, and whether you can issue corrected completion proof showing the applicable provider details and contact hours.
Keep the provider’s reply with the original document. Do not edit the provider-issued certificate yourself.

Where do I look up a California BRN CEP number?
Use the California DCA License Search. Select “Registered Nursing, Board of” under Boards and Bureaus, then “Continuing Education Provider - CEP” under License Type. Search by the number or the provider’s legal Business Name.
What if my CE certificate has no provider number?
Ask the course provider which legal entity and California BRN CEP number apply and request corrected completion proof when appropriate. Do not copy an unrelated number from a search result or guess what BreEZe expects.
Does every accepted course have a California CEP number?

Does an active CEP number mean every course counts?
