What the official rules say

Standard active renewal: the California BRN states that RNs generally need 30 contact hours during the preceding renewal period.

Eligible first renewal: the standard 30-hour total is exempted, but one hour of direct-participation implicit-bias training still applies.

Delinquent or inactive path: the BRN generally requires 30 hours completed within the preceding two years.

Certain NPs: when the stated older-patient population condition applies, at least 6 of the 30 hours must cover gerontology, dementia, or older-patient care.
