Could fingerprints be holding your renewal?
For an active California RN renewal, the BRN must have acceptable DOJ and FBI fingerprint results on file. A paid renewal can remain incomplete when a required result is missing or unmatched.
Renewing active
The BRN says both DOJ and FBI results must be on file, or you will need to submit a new set. Check your renewal notice and BreEZe deficiencies before the expiration date.
Renewing inactive
Fingerprints are not required to renew inactive, but an inactive license does not permit California nursing practice. Returning to active status can trigger the fingerprint requirement.
Four checks before you wait

Read the renewal notice
The BRN says the notice sent before expiration should indicate whether fingerprints are required.

Check the 2014 date
If your BRN fingerprint submission was before January 1, 2014 and no newer set is on file, the Board says another submission is required.

Use the right BRN request
Employer, school, or another agency fingerprints are not interchangeable with the BRN-specific submission. Follow the Board's Live Scan or FD-258 instructions.

Inspect the deficiency
If payment cleared but status did not update, use the Application Status and Details page and the BRN fingerprint contact route to identify the missing item.

Use official BRN and BreEZe channels for personal identifiers, Live Scan documents, or corrections. The tracker only needs a reminder that the requirement was checked—not the sensitive record itself.
